The Ontario Building and Construction Tradeswomen (OBCT) was established by the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario (PBCTCO) in 2019 via resolution at the PBCTCO 62nd Annual Convention in 2019 in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
The resolution was entitled "Recommendations from Women's Conference" whereby a Standing Committee on Women's Issues was appointed with the aim of improving the recruitment and retention of women construction workers employed in Ontario's construction industry.
Today, that Committee is known as the Ontario Building and Construction Tradeswomen (OBCT).
Today we are a committee made up of hundreds of Ontario tradeswomen who are working together to advocate for women and underrepresented gender identities in the trades to ensure they feel inspired, welcomed, motivated, challenged, and empowered.
