Mental Health First Aid Standard Virtual (self-directed + virtual classroom)

About the Event

Please note this training includes 3 Modules. Module 1 is self-directed, and Module 2 and Module 3 take place in the virtual classroom over two days - Saturday, July 8th, 2023 and Saturday, July 15th, 2023.

Your attendance will be confirmed by the course facilitator, Cindy Krysac, once we've received your registration. Please respond to any emails you may receive from Cindy.

Module 1: Registered participants will be required to complete the 2 hour self-directed Module 1 by 8pm Thursday July 6th, 2023 to be provided access to Module 2 & 3.

Module 2: Participants who complete Module 1 will be provided Zoom access for Saturday, July 8th, 2023 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm (3 1/2 hours of virtual class time)

Module 3: Participants who complete Module 2 will be provided Zoom access for Saturday, July 15th, 2023 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm (3 1/2 hours of virtual class time)

This Mental Health First Aid Training will provide valuable information on how to unpack the stigma surrounding mental health. Participants will learn and practice social interactive skills and develop confidence in personal abilities to help themselves and others while on and off the job!

Module 1 Self-directed: Must be completed on own time prior to 8pm Thursday, July 6th, 2023

Module 2 Virtual Classroom: Saturday, July 8th, 2023 - 9:00 am - 12:30 pm

Module 3 Virtual Classroom: Saturday, July 15th, 2023 - 9:00 am - 12:30 pm

Course participants will learn how to recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis and encourage that person to:

- Talk about declines in their mental well-being

- Discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being

- Reach out to these support

- Assist in a mental health or substance use crisis

- Use MHFA actions to maintain one’s own mental well-being

Course will be delivered by Cindy Krysac, an experienced and trusted instructor who has provided Mental Health First Aid training for over 1,100 participants. She applies evidence-based teaching methods to create an effective and comfortable learning experience, while inspiring participants with her knowledge and passion for mental health awareness and actions.

Mental Health First Aid Canada is an evidence-based program of The Mental Health Commission of Canada. Mental Health First Aid training is offered in alignment with the Ontario Building Trades Mental Health Strategy.

OBCT is offering MHFA Standard Virtual for anyone working in the construction industry in Ontario. This is an initiative to help address the fact that the construction industry is hard hit with greater than normal mental health problems, substance use and suicide. Registering does not guarantee a seat in this class. All participants will be asked to identify their, or their family member's, trade and union, or their association with the construction industry in Ontario. Participants who register for more than one course will automatically be placed in the first available course and all subsequent date registrations will be removed.
